Applefest overview

Harcourt, a rural township off the Calder Highway near the Melbourne to Bendigo railway. The Harcourt Applefest, an Annual event held in the local township and organized by the local community. A day-long festival in the Harcourt Valley that highlights the region’s vast cultural heritage and produce. The event is renowned for its engaging activities and showcasing of local talents, stalls, skills, and various other attractions that are suitable for all ages.

Set in a valley at the foot of Mount Alexander, Harcourt was once the premier apple growing region in Australia and is fast gaining a name in wine & cider production.

Harcourt Valley…

  • Harcourt, is 11 km north-east of Castlemaine on the western side of the Mount Alexander. Barkers Creek flows through Harcourt (as well as Castlemaine), the site of alluvial gold at Specimen gully during the gold rushes of 1851-52.
    Mount Alexander is the dominant background, (named by the NSW Surveyor-General in 1836 after Alexander the Great.) In 1845 Dr William Barker acquired the Mount Alexander pastoral run and built a homestead beside Barkers Creek in Harcourt North.
    Harcourt township was surveyed in 1853, It was named after Sir William Harcourt, English Chancellor of the Exchequer.
